The Gantry
Hotel Lobby Interior Design & Art Curation
The Gantry is an iconic, design-led hotel in Stratford, London, and part of the Hilton Curio group. We designed and decorated the public spaces, including the hotel lobby. The theme is inspired by Stratford’s industrial past, contrasted with luxurious modern-day comfort. The materials’ palette is centred around raw concrete, aged copper and fluted glass.
The lobby walls are a celebration of the base structure of the building, using the original raw concrete slab with a decorative illuminated mesh overlay, set within an industrial framework to draw attention to the textural quality of the contrasting materials. The mid-century furniture style is juxtaposed with contemporary art, accessories and books to celebrate both the past and the future. A number of repurposed materials have been used throughout the space, most noticeably the
feature wall behind the reception desk which is made of recycled leather. We worked with Shoreditch based Jealous Gallery to curate a selection of art pieces for the lobby and the room corridors that create a hub for artistic expression for the community. The eclectic mix contrasts graffiti with sculpture and neon with fine art. The pieces were commissioned by established names as well as emerging artists including Sophie Smallhorn and Andrew Miller.
